When you want to see the fastest, toughest cars that have ever been put together, it is time for you to purchase some Daytona 500 tickets and to bring your family along for the ride! Car racing has always been something that will get your blood flowing and that lets you watch an impressive performance of man and machine. At the Daytona 500, you’ll see some of the best racing that the world has ever known!
DAYTONA’S HISTORY
Before the infamous Daytona 500, and its amazing track and amenities, there was nothing but beach and road. But that kept no one from racing! The races were shorter when they were held on Daytona Beach, and when they were held on this legendary location, they were run partially on sand, and partially on the nearby highway.
The stock cars that ran those races had special amenities to ensure that the sand they kicked up didn’t do damage to the cars, such as wipers and radiators. The races back then were held at 200 mile intervals. And out of those humble beginnings in the first part of the 20th century, the Daytona 500 was born.
TODAY IN DAYTONA
Today, getting Daytona 500 tickets is the best way to get up close and personal with some of the most awe-inspiring race cars of our time. The Daytona 500 is held in the Daytona International Speedway, and it has been ever since it’s first occurrence in 1959.
The race itself consists of 200 laps that make up 500 miles, and during the race’s fifty year history, it has produced some real champions. Many people regard the Daytona 500 as the most important and perhaps most prestigious NASCAR race. It is definitely the race with the biggest purse for the winner, and is traditionally the first race of the NASCAR season. After a day full of thrilling activity, the winner is presented with the Harley J. Earl Trophy, and for one year, you can see the winning car at the museum next to the Daytona International Speedway.
SOME WINNERS
When you purchase your Daytona 500 tickets, you are going to get to see some amazing car racing. You also get to see just one racer emerge as the champion. The first winner of this historic race was Lee Petty, the founder of the racing Petty family, who won the race back 1959.
Like father, like son, Lee’s son Richard Petty went on to top the list of multiple winners of the Daytona 500, having won it no less than seven times, in 1964, 1966, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1979, and 1981. Let us not forget the race’s fastest winner, who won the Daytona 500 at the thrilling speed of 177.602 miles per hour in 1980. Buddy Baker takes that prize. Several other famous drivers have not only won, but have done so several times, including both Dale Jarrett and Jeff Gordon, each having done so three time each.
If you can only make it to one NASCAR race this year, or, better yet, have yet to enjoy the experience of a NASCAR race, make it this year’s Daytona 500. You are guaranteed never to regret it. The Daytona 500 is a living, breathing part of NASCAR history, and the excitement of this event every year is indescribable. You have to see it to believe it. The Daytona 500 kicks off the NASCAR season, with everyone’s excitement level at a peak. The cars are pristine, and the celebrities are everywhere. So do yourself a favor, treat yourself to an unforgettable experience. Buy tickets to the Daytona 500 – only don’t forget to buy enough for family and friends, or they may never forgive you!
