The Priests in the World of Warcraft contrary to the Shamans and Druids are a very specialized class. They are involved with healing, life and the preservation of their allies. As a general function, priests are the protectors of its party from damage and the healing of the wounded but on extreme cases they also decides who to let live and who dies. But there are two variant of Priests in WoW. This Priest guide will attempt to make your choices smoother by showing their roles. Knowing the style of playing that you want will enable you to select a better Priest.

Remember that Priests are support players in the game. They are not openly involved in the battle as the other characters. But if you are good at it, expect a lot of thrill and invites, besides, what party doesn\’t want a good priest? If decided on playing the Priest, here are your alternatives.

The Healing Priest – You are the holy one and spend much talent on the Holy tree and Discipline tree. Spending your talents on the holy tree increases your number of heals and the efficiency of heals that you cast whereas your mana pool and regeneration rate in increased in the Discipline tree. When your specs are up, you link with parties and perform your duties. Your duties involve two priorities, healing and mana management. While performing your main duties, you will also be caught in a condition that you will have to decide whether the collateral damage that is hitting some among your party is worth saving or not. Mana management is making the mana efficient so you can heal your group longer. It is also prioritizing the healing so that the team fights more efficiently.

Here are the three essential types of heals. The fastest heal is the flash heal where healing is instantaneous but is also the least mana efficient followed by the renew heal when the intent is for the damage to heal overtime while the most mana efficient is the greater heal that when cast is a longer casting heal.

The Shadow Priest – What is good and what is right is neither in your list of items nor your vocabulary. You go out there and focus on death and destruction. Is it interesting enough? Good. There are times when it is nice to play bad.

You would want to do great damage to the other party, you forego other things though. And so the way to increase your DPS is to outdo other Mages, Warlocks and even other Priests. Take enough stamina so that when you take hits, you can at least create havoc and take others down with you before you die. Choosing PvP will make your priest even more durable and really bad. If playing the Shadow Priest is the way to go, you will have to use more of your talent in the Shadow tree. The Shadow tree will characterize you and will allow you to make more damage while taking less.

However, every priest is expected to have some healing ability and be able to reasonably manage mana so spend some of your talents also in the holy tree.
