Are you looking for a new hobby? Something to keep you busy, get you outside? Something you can do with your kids or alone? Why not think about something out of the ordinary? There are tons of hobbies most of which would never occur to people. Think about the things you like to do, and your preferences and see if any of these unusual hobbies are a good match.
If you love to spend time outside, enjoy peace and quiet and working with living things you might enjoy tree shaping. Tree shaping involves bending and moving live trees into specific shapes. You can shape a tree into just about anything you can imagine. It takes time for the tree to grow into that shape, so this is not for the impatient hobbyist.
Not willing to wait for years to see your hobby come to fruition? Want something a little more exciting? Why not try sky diving? It is one of the most exciting hobbies you can get. Flying to altitude and then jumping out of a plane! You can fly solo or in a group. Many people are forming sky diving groups where they do acrobatics while plummeting towards the ground.
If you really want to keep your feet on the ground why not try something a little more sedentary? Quilting will keep you home and in a calm frame of mind. It will also produce a beautiful work of art when you are finished. Handmade quilts can turn into family heirlooms and can be sold for a nice profit. Your hobby could turn into a lucrative business opportunity.
Want a hobby that’s a little more exciting than quilting? This one is very unusual. Dumpster Diving. This is a hobby where you can go alone or with a group of friends, looking through other people’s trash looking for treasures. You can take dumpster diving to any degree, some just find some interesting objects they need. Others look for things they can put in works of art. Some people take dumpster diving to the farthest extreme and find all of their food from other people’s trash.
If you are looking for a similar type of adventure, but not so much digging in the trash you may find urban exploring fits you just right. Urban exploring, also known as urban spelunking refers to those people who explore deserted or abandoned properties. These may be abandoned hospitals or factories. They could be burned out buildings. This is called urban exploring but can be done anywhere you can find abandoned buildings. Although urban spelunkers may be trespassing on the properties they explore they are generally very ethical people leaving the property in just the state they found it.
What about Guerrilla gardening? This one is slightly illegal too, but leaves a beautiful footprint. Guerrilla gardening means going onto property you don’t own and planting seeds or bulbs. I think this sounds like a great hobby myself. What fun for people to wake up one day in spring to see daffodils blooming or a grape hyacinth peeking through the snow. This all depends I suppose on how guerrilla you get, but it sounds like a lot of fun.
Looking for a hobby that’s totally on the legal side, but is still exciting, but can be very calming too? Why not think about beekeeping? Yes, beekeeping. This is a hobby that has started taking off both in rural and urban settings. You can keep a lot of bees or a small hive it’s completely up to you. Beekeeping is something even beginners can do, and with a little time you will be an old hat.
