27 viewsIf you have not already joined the wave of people switching to natural products, now is the time. Why not start with a product you use everyday? SOAP! Learning how to make organic soap is so easy and it is better for your skin and the environment.
Here are 6 easy steps in making organic soap:
1) Place all of you ingredients and equipment in an organized manner on your countertop. Dont forget your soap recipe!
2) Weigh your ingredients. It is critical that you have your scale set to zero. One of the most important parts to making organic soap is having precise amounts of each ingredient. The wrong amounts can easily cause a bad batch of soap.
3) Mix your lye and distilled water in a stainless steel pot. Be sure to add the lye slowly to the water. Do NOT add water to the lye first! Once the mixture is created, allow it to cool to about 100 degrees.
4) Melt the fats you have chosen to use at 100 degrees. Again, use a stainless steel pot or some organic soap makers prefer using a crock pot.
5) Mix your two solutions together. Once your lye and distilled water mixture have cooled to 100 degrees slowly pour it into the melted oils. Then quickly use your hand mixer to blend the two solutions together until it reaches a pudding like consistency at which point you can add your chosen botanicals, herbs, etc.
6) Lastly, pour the mixture into your molds and cover them for 24 to 48 hours. The soap will take about 4 weeks to harden before it can be used.
