Staying in a beach house is all about nature and relaxation. The bright sunshine, romantic sunset, soothing sound of waves, soft feel of sand and the endless blue of the sky or star-filled night sky all capture a scenic, close to perfect days and nights. Decorating your beach house to match these views will make your life by the beach all the more perfect!

All you need for decorating your beach house is to look around you. The design ideas you\’ll get from the ocean, sand and beach life are aplenty. Trust me, you won\’t be lacking of inspiration. To start with, the floor should be in an easy to maintain material for the constant visitor – sand. Wood or tile floor then is perfect. As for the fabrics, go for lightweight and similarly easy to clean materials. You can use floral, tropical and outdoor design themes for your covers and cushions.

There\’s no need to cover the floor with carpet. With the sand, wet footprints and perhaps, trailing moss every time you set foot in your house, carpeted floor is not exactly a breeze for household cleaning. Why not go for area rugs instead? Not only will area rugs add color, shape and design to your home, they will also give more texture to your interiors. The natural fibers of sisal and sea grass contribute to the outdoorsy feel and the soft, relaxing ambiance of what an ideal beach house should have.

Choosing colors for a beach house is perhaps the easiest choice you will have to make. Get inspiration from the beach surroundings. You will see that earth tones and light colors dominate the color scheme. The walls can be in the sand color of tan or beige while the furnishings can be in white, soft blue and green, or light brown.

You don\’t have to have window treatments for your beach house as you want it to be as airy as possible. But if you must, go for sheer curtains or shutters in pristine white for a complete look.

There\’s a whole market of free accessories waiting for you down at the beach. You can get all sorts of coral pieces and shells in different shapes and striking colors and patterns to display on shelves in your beach house. Place them with some sand inside clear glass jars and in wooden bowls to serve as centre pieces on your table.

Go for chairs made from wicker furniture, as these will withstand the ravages of the natural environment. Set up a wooden table outside, underneath a large beach umbrella for more direct contact with your outdoors. A hammock would also be great to laze around in.

Remember not to clutter your home with too many items. Do away with unnecessary objects and leave as much space as you can.

Keep up to date with Interior Decorating trends and enhance your home with blue rugs.
